Ymountain trail is one of the most popular trails for Utah Valley. A short yet steep climb up Y Mountain to the rocky surface of the Y is a great activity for family fun. However, few choose to hike beyond the Y to reach the mountain summit for extravagant views of Utah Valley.
The trail begins at the base of Y mountain and continues along steep switchbacks for about 1 mile until reaching the concrete logo of Brigham Young University. Atop the Y leads a single track trail that begins the ascent to a world of extravagant scenery.
After about a 1/4 mile from the top of the Y you will reach a rocky tower perfect for a rest and a call of the wild from the top. From there an incredible view of Slide Canyon gives a preview of what is to become.
Hiking up Slide Canyon is steep yet engaging climb, as aspens, pines, oaks, and grassy meadows distract you from the difficult grind. In a grove of aspens you will meet a fork in the trail, STAY LEFT, and continue on to more beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

Eventually you will come to find a large field of grass surruonded by shimmering aspen. A "T" in the trail will be met, STAY TO THE LEFT, and continue for about 10 more minutes until the summit is reached for incredible views of the valley below. The trail travels south to a makeshit "rock altar" which is a great spot for a quick lunch and to take in the mountain beauty.
